Bibliophile alert, Are you a Bibliophile? I love reading and have read countless books throughout the years. This post I wanted to honor some of my personal favorites I have picked up that have changed my life on the Awakening journey. Perhaps with some added quirky commentary.
Mercury Retrograde let’s face it, makes us super nostalgic. With life happening, I expected to have some video posts to debut this week, but instead that didn’t happen due to focusing on my family. However, I thought this was a great opportunity to focus on the nostalgia I’ve been feeling and channel this into a lovely post of Books that changed my life and inevitably the direction of The Awakened State.
It’s amazing to witness how far we’ve come from a little Tumblr q&a blog with a mission to reach as many people as possible. I had 17 followers. no idea what i was doing but a burning desire to teach what I did know.
Practical Spirituality.
This underlining process of merging both the spiritual and the practical became my life anthem. I admit at times I was incredibly fluffy, with the essence of being airy fairy in what I decided to “preach”.
Over time I have learned to strip back the layers, take out the bullshit and really hone in on what matters. Life is spiritual.
When we decide to merge the sacred with the mundane, something magical happens – Life takes on different hues and meanings.
Everything becomes a teacher.
I find in many ways when we decide to cut ourselves off from guidance, we forget that there are angels in hiding all around us. When I set out on this journey, I was often vulnerable, then arrogant, then vulnerable again, then healed, then healing and somewhere ended up on a totally different path from where I started.
In short, it was when I reached out to various spiritual teachers that I began to empower and elevate myself. I studied, like a mad woman voracious for information and in my time soul searching for what this thing called “kundalini awakening” is really about I found myself, I lost myself, I uncreated stories, and birthed the new in my life as a co-creator of my own reality.
In my times of feeling lost or searching for information, rather than always going inward, I searched outward.
And in the process of searching outward through Teachers, courses, tools, rituals, crystals, divination and the like – This process brought me inward to heal and transform. What’s funny is between this process I began to see something funny, it all matters.
Soak that it. It all Matters.
The internal, the external, the sacred, the mundane. It’s all a part of the process, babe
So when life is flipping your world upside down or maybe you just need a hint of a refresher course or even a spiritual retreat in your own living room – I go where my heart resonates.
Each teacher, each book is a secret angel in disguise bringing us back home to ourselves.
One reason I really love exploring books is they sometimes get us to question ourselves and our reality. They open up our mind and offer us new perspectives.
Often times we only stay in our own personal opinions and decide to do our own thing, which sometimes creates this arrogance of “I already know that – why do I need this?”
When we’re in that place, we can shut off our guidance unconsciously. I actually found this with Spirit Junkie by Gabby Bernstein. I originally didn’t want to read the book because I thought it was the same basic topics I’ve already been hearing about like gratitude and forgiveness. However revisiting these topics from a different perspective was what made it such a life changing book.
You never know until you’re willing to step out of your own way and see into new perspectives. Books can often be the tool to do just that.
Here’s some of the Books that changed my life and the flow of The Awakened State.
Enjoy
Stones of the New Consciousness By Robert Simmons
This is the book that started it all for me, before I even knew what a “merkabah” or “lightworker” was, before I knew what crystals really did, before any of that. I purchased this book on a whim because I wanted a crystal book. Little did I know that this book is awesome for Lightworkers, going into the process of higher vibrational crystals, light body process and tons of knowledge about the influencing potential behind crystals. Robert Simmons really has an interesting approach to crystals that I find fascinating. It taught me I am a Crystal. 🙂
If you’re a crystal beginner, I recommend the Book of Stones also by the same author.
Wicca for Beginners: Fundamentals of Philosophy & Practice by Thea Sabin
I don’t associate myself as Wiccan anymore but behind a lot of wicca and occult practices is the bare roots of Energy Tools. If you’re looking to get more of a hands -on approach to your spiritual practice. I recommend looking in other places, this is where I started learning the most, when I got my head out of the new age section. Ironically.
The Power of Now By Eckhart Tolle
This is hands down the book I always sound like a broken record about mainly because the lessons in this book are lifechanging, if applied. I recommend this book not because I’m a diehard Tolle fan but because this is the book to get yourself out of psychological time and into the Present Moment. It turns life into a meditation. It brings Mindfulness into a place where we can fully accept our present awareness. It gets you to reprocess how you are thinking and teaches you how to Let go of the Past for good.
This book helped me get rid of a lot of anxiety and is always a pleasure to randomly reopen to a lesson I need to hear. It took me a year to read this book, I purposely digested it slowly. Every time I had yoga class actually I read it before going to class while I was waiting lol. It’s a book to savor and let it simmer in your mind – toss the ideas around and let it breathe through you. The Present moment is the key to full Alignment with our Soul. This books strips the layers of what is possible when we are truly present.
May Cause Miracles & Spirit Junkie by Gabrielle Bernstein
Gabby Bernstein cme into my life at such an odd time last year but I’m hugely grateful for finding her information. May Cause Miracles is a 40 day Spiritual CLEANSE for the mind, body, spirit. I’ve done it twice now and each time I’ve benefited tremendously. I think out of all of her books, the most mind-bending for me has been May Cause Miracles mainly due to there is a mental discipline to it. It is a 40 day life plan as 40 days is based on Kundalini Yoga and how we can actively change a habit in 40 days of repetition. Each part of the book she has you Witness your fear, encounter your willingness, welcome new perspectives, embrace gratitude, forgive and expect miracles. If you’re ready for radical change, I highly recommend trying it. Caution: Expect Miracles 🙂
Spirit Junkie I am also adding to the list because I think despite it being a book on addiction, it is excellent for anyone who needs help with healing Relationships. Spirit Junkie really helped me heal aspects of my past, that i was often unwilling to look at or truly make peace with until recently. A big part of that was healing mother wounds. Anyway while the language is very basic, Gabby will definitely get to your heart and really crack you open in the best way possible.
I’m proud to be a Spirit Junkie. 😉
The Magic by Rhonda Byrne
The Magic is awesome if you’re feeling constantly negative about your life. I personally feel this was the missing element the book, The Secret really needed. I felt like this book was really about changing your perspective and choosing to view more positive aspects of living.
It teaches you to appreciate the small stuff and in appreciating everything in our life through gratitude, we begin to carve out an amazing mindset shift that can influence your reality. The magic was my inspiration behind the gratitude challenges I created throughout the years so if you’re looking to get rid of a negative attitude definitely check this one out.
The Brain That Changes Itself By Norman Doidge
Norman Doidge is a psychiatrist and psychoanalyst who studies the groundbreaking case studies of Neuroplasticity. This is an ultra science book but has amazing stories to share in terms of how the mind can literally change itself. There are numerous theories out there that Kundalini and Neuroplasticity are incontrovertibly linked. In general I find this book fascinating in learning about how we can easily change neuron pathways in the brain if we’re willing to do so. It holds miraculous stories of how the mind works, hands down.
The Subtle Body: An Encyclopedia of Your Energetic Anatomy By Cyndi Dale
I have yet to find a book that goes into as much detail and cultural knowledge of the subtle systems as this book does. Cyndi Dale set out on a mission to deeply research not just the chakra system about how all the subtle energy systems influence the body. How each different culture views the energy body, our meridians and even the energy behind each organ. In some ways I think this book beats Wheels of Life By Anodea Judith which is also a personal fav of mine dealing with the chakras. If you’re ready to dive head first into the Chakras, The Subtle Body is an amazing reference book to have in your library.
The Emerald Tablet & The Kybalion By Hermes Trismegistus
Hermes Trismegistus is my man. No seriously, I spent a great deal of time in honoring the Emerald tablet, their hidden knowledge and meditating on their passages. I think it’s important to realize that we don’t just find this knowledge in the new age section or even self-help books. A lot of Spiritual knowledge goes back to ancient texts including some passages from the old testament. Throughout various cultures there are ancient texts that speak of what many fail to see, that we are co-creators of reality.
The Source Field Investigations By David Wilcock
#cosmicnerd If you’re looking to get behind more of the science and bizarre spiritual truths such as the pyramids, ancient sites, physical case studies, this book will be your ticket. Once upon a time I was obsessed with pyramids, ancient texts, and drinking the David Wilcock koolaid. There really is some AMAZING research out there, if you’re willing to look. I really loved the message behind this book, he was trying to prove that spiritual phenomena is not only real but a very bizarre physical part of reality many people are not investigating in until now.
I personally don’t vibe with Wilcock that much anymore but If you’re into the science side of Spirituality, I recommend this book and checking out Nassim Haramein on Youtube. Nassim is great for Quantum physics and explores more of the unified field theory. If you’re ready to nerd out, he also has a new film out which he’s trying to get to the masses The Connected Universe and the Resonance Science Foundation.
The Prism Of Lyra By Lyssa Royal
Starseeds unite! Random fun fact since I was maybe 7 or 8 years old I was drawn to the constellation of Lyra. I always wrote stories about a girl named Lyra. Upon Awakening I found this book by accident and it really triggered me. It has all sorts of information on Lyra, what was channeled from memory and how different star systems influenced us and were us. If you’re heavily drawn to star systems, this is an excellent book to check out.
“we are all stardust”
Understanding Aleister Crowley’s Thoth Tarot by Lon Milo DuQuette
My love being into Themela, introduced me to this book and omg! it’s intense and probably my favorite Tarot book out there. This book goes deep into the Thoth deck and the archetypal symbolism behind it. It made me see an entirely different way to appreciate the art of Tarot. I love that it also mentions The Holy Guardian Angel and talk of the Higher Self. In general it’s my favorite due to it’s depth of symbolism behind the tarot cards. If you work with tarot especially the Thoth deck this is a must have into the magick behind divination.
Ancient Secrets of Kundalini By Gopi Krishna
Gopi Krishna is the founding father of Kundalini research, he was one of the first people to really go hardcore with researching into what the heck is Kundalini Awakening? I found him when I was originally writing my book which later transformed into this website. He has many books on Kundalini especially pertaining to the mental side of Kundalini Yoga. I’m including him because his work should be more noted in the Spiritual Awakening world. Ancient Secrets was one of my favorite.
The Code of the Extraordinary Mind By Vishen Lakhiani
I really loved Vishen’s simplicity but radical approach to ditch the “brules” of our lives. He teaches strongly on how to live in the now and that we all can get out of the “culturescape” we created and invoke our Blissipline! It really gets you to think about your life and how to start letting go of limited beliefs. What I deeply enjoyed about this book is that he did tons of research into interviewing different people and how successful people think in the real world. if you’re not into entrepreneurship, there is tons of spiritual undertones that I thought is what made the book so memorable.
The Game of Life & How to Play It By Florence Schovel Shinn
If you’re into Law of Attraction and Manifestation, this book is really intriguing! Florence Scovel Shinn is very old school borrowing on religious scripture and old fashioned language. It was written in 1925 so we’re talking way before books like The Secret or Abraham even existed. However the content inside is totally worth it as she talks on many spiritual laws, how manifesting works, the power of the subconscious(my favorite topic) and so much more. There are still pieces of her book that help me. It’s admitted, an old book filled with wisdom towards what the “law of attraction” is really about but also how everyone has a Divine Plan within them ready to be awakened.
Think & Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill
This book is so much more than just “money talk”. Napoleon Hill really gets it and through studying his mentor, he wrote about the 13 steps towards understanding our mind and how we invoke auto suggestion. He goes deep into the subjects of how reality works, our mind becomes the ultimate influencer in our life and applies very interesting visualization techniques to create his own mastermind. I got this book and didn’t realize how heady it was actually going to be. It goes deep into subjects that nourish the soul and teach us to embrace our subconscious mind in entirely new ways to influence our reality. It isn’t on the “must read” list for nothing, despite this book being older it has so many nuggets of wisdom for the Spiritual seeker.
Leveraging the Universe: 7 Steps to Engaging Life’s Magic By Mike Dooley
I found this book at the Library by chance checked it out on a whim and completely devoured it. It’s a book on Co-creation, Law of Attraction and engaging Life’s natural magic. Mike Dooley, creator of notes from the Universe, keeps it real, keeps it practical and reminds us to never give up hope. I think what makes this book on my list is that he mentions this statement that has stood by me since I read it. “You need to do all you can with what you have, from where you are to do your part in leveraging the universe.”
Baby Steps are what inevitably create Quantum Leaps. you gotta get that car out of park 😉 Any action is better than no action at all. He teaches us if we desire to create our dreams into reality, we must meet the universe halfway everytime. When we remember our power, we can truly chart our course for amazing life changing! If you’re ready for a feel-good book on working with the universe, this will be perfect for you.
Light is the New Black By Rebecca Campbell
I think every Lightworker needs this book to turn to when they feel they lost their way. Rebecca Campbell is poetic and refreshing. I really didn’t think I was going to like this book when I originally picked it up.
Instead I found myself sitting in a cafe reading numerous chapters in the book store(true story) & realized I NEED this in my life.
Rebecca has numerous passages that stand out in a way where you can grab the book off your shelve and open it to a random page for guidance. It isn’t structured like a normal book, it has life lessons, reminders and numerous ways to journal on what truly lights us up and why? In some ways, I feel like it functions more like an oracle deck. I thought this book nourished my soul and is one that I continuously come back to for a cosmic pick me up.
The Desire Map By Danielle Laporte
This book is my newest obsession. The Desire Map is a guide to creating goals with soul but it’s so much more than that. It’s roots are simplistic but it gets us to process this life bending question: How do you want to feel? and how can you start to feel that way daily?
What really spoke to me about this book was how it gets us in touch with our emotional body, how we choose to process our emotions but also our desires! This addresses noting your desires are your birthright and when we choose to activate how we desire to feel, we begin to create magnetism within ourselves towards our desires.
Plus Danielle Laporte is sexy to listen to, overall it’s a great experience if you’re ready to open up towards your desires and get in touch with your feelings. Or you’re just looking for a new way to set new goals in life…
Alright so these are some of the top books that have shaped who I am, at least the ones I remember ha!
As you can see I’ve a little all over the map. The Spiritual path is so far from a straight line, I find truth whenever I go from the new age section all the way to neuroscience!
There’s a little piece in there for everybody.
I hope some of these inspire you to check them out for yourself
