We have now completed the first spiral of Cycles of Healing (32 articles), laying the groundwork for linking the new moon with the Great Year Ages and all that involves. This second spiral will look at the new and full moon charts. If you are new to Western Sidereal Astrology, please read this article. I am using charts drawn up for Washington, D.C. and use sidereal whole sign houses. If you want to know how to use Cycles of Healing with each new moon for deep healing, read this article.
A powerful time, this full moon chart has four sets of planets or points in the same sign (not all of them stellium, however). The last couple of charts we looked at had a predominance of planets/points in Aquarius or Pisces, but this time the energies are distributed between Libra, Aquarius, Pisces and Aries as you can see in the accompanying illustration.
The forecast, as always, will affect individuals with natal planets or points in aspect to the planets and points covered below. To see if these aspects will affect you personally, check your sidereal natal chart (the common tropical chart degrees will be way off and therefore useless – not apples to apples). To calculate your sidereal degrees, subtract 24° from your tropical degrees; this will be close, not exact, but good enough for our purposes. Sidereal astrology is where the planets actually are if you take the time to look up at the night sky.
Full Moon at 8° 26’ Libra in the 11th house, conjunct Black Moon Lilith and the Mid-heaven. We will be careful to get along with others, but take care not to deny what we need for ourselves. Getting along is one thing, but putting-up-with is an entirely different deal. With Black Moon Lilith conjunct this full moon, we may feel we don’t quite belong to the group now or that others around us are really strangers. It will be best to feel these developments and not react; to take time to let things flow for a while and just observe. The moon is fast moving and this could easily shift in a day or so. If it doesn’t, then its time to reassess our place in the group and perhaps make different choices now. Astrological aspects don’t predetermine events so much as allow us insight, if we take the time to notice, into our developmental process so we can change, becoming more authentic. Its like a continuous checks and balances act.
The Sun moved into Sidereal Aries April 14th, and for this chart resides in the fifth house at 8° 26’. Retrograde Jupiter is 19° 38’ in 9th house Leo, which is ruled by the Sun. We look for things that bring fun, laughter, and creativity into our lives without forcing goals and expectations (Mars rules Aries: see below). Long distance travel may appear in our lives, may waft out again or change (Neptune opposes Jupiter). Just keep communications clear, straightforward and fluid. We keep open to new ways of looking at the world and our place in it; our philosophies may change if we are ready to reassess and shift our ideas and visions. Not knowing is a good place to start the change, so don’t panic if suddenly there is the experience of inner confusion and nebulousness (Neptune). It has its place.
Mercury at 27° 31’ in 5th house Aries, goes retrograde April 28th. This will give us five retrograde planets in the heavens. Make the most of this powerful inward time and don’t force outer oriented projects. As always with Mercury retrograde, take the time to think before speaking, and slow down a lot. This will often have the effect of minimizing the usual frustrations associated with Mercury retrograde. It is a time to go back over projects, documents, writings, paintings, etc., and re-evaluate their effectiveness and place in our lives. We then have the choice to change or continue on when Mercury goes direct May 22nd (the shadow period completes on June 8th). It might be useful to re-read our journals and dream journals of the last few months to get extra insight.
Venus at 26° 18’ conjuncts Uranus at 27° 04’ in Pisces 4th; both square retrograde Pluto at 23° 24’ Sagittarius 1st. What we value may be up for sudden transformation. This could happen in the areas of aesthetics, personal relationships, or our value system. This is a good opportunity to pay attention to how we feel in familiar or unfamiliar territories and don’t down play what we discover there; then alter course as necessary. We may find deep changes to our selves initiated during this time.
Mars at 14° 41’ Scorpio in the 12th is retrograde and conjunct Antares, the fixed star at the heart of the Scorpion. Whereas at the new moon this was going on just before Mars turned retrograde in the 8th house of personal truth and authenticity, this time we are in the realm of the subconscious and divine relationship. There will be much that is going on below the surface as we take a look at what we thought we desired, or what we’ve been told we should desire. With Saturn in the same house, though not conjunct, the best tactic is to take it slowly and with patience while this subconscious reassessment takes place. Don’t try to push anything to into consciousness yet. But do pay special attention to dreams, meditation, synchronicities, etc., as that is where the messages may appear for now.
Pluto is retrograde and is conjunct the Ascendant at 19° 39’ Sagittarius. This points to the transformation of our trajectory and main lessons this lifetime, and being more quietly on the inside on a subconscious level for now. Work toward being present in moment-to-moment life and notice what comes up. As with all things Pluto, don’t hold onto something that is ready to be released unless you are a masochist. Practice non-attachment and going with the flow: it sounds trite only when we don’t really know how to do this well. Don’t struggle – allow.
Over the years Pluto has become my friend, but not without a struggle on my part. I’ve recently noticed (my deep interest in astrology is the study of large cycles) that a large portion of the initiating and transformative experiences of life have happened for me during Pluto retrograde. Pluto retrogrades once a year and, including the shadow period is encouraging this particular inner process 5 out of 12 months of the year. If you have access to an ephemeris, and the inclination, have a look at the correlation of Pluto retrograde periods and your own life experiences. We can get a sense of the flavor of events in each house Pluto transits and see the similarities of lessons of letting go over the entire lifespan. I suspect that one day we won’t be using the ascendant to determine our chart/life ruler, but with individual effort will discover our very personal one. Pluto is very definitively mine.
Chiron at 29° 22’ Aquarius is close to changing signs and will do so before the next new moon. It is wise to take note when planets change signs/houses. Conjuncting the South Node, Chiron in Aquarius offers us a last chance to let go of past life Aquarian-type wounds such as absolutism, fanaticism, and extreme chaotic behaviors, or being disorganized and too impractical to manifest anything. Balance with Leonian personal creativity and expression. Inculcate compassion and universal love, seeing the broadest picture possible in life. This can be interpreted in a number of ways and will, of course, be very individual. However, on a global scale we may see more expression of, or the realization of the need for, Piscean compassion, forgiveness, trust and faith. As each one of us heals the wound of escapist hopelessness, our inner light becomes a little less occluded.
Void Houses:
Capricorn 2nd house – Globally there may be underhanded financial transactions going on which will come to light at a later date. Personally we may fall into the trap of not feeling worthy enough to have our needs met. But this is an excellent time to let go of possessions: clear out the garage, closet, attic and make room for new energy to enter our lives. The next couple of weeks offers a wonderful opportunity to release the past in the form of material stuff we’ve been hording. Remain scrupulously honest; anything dishonest will come to light at some point.
Taurus 6th house – We may feel more secure operating from home base, so try to be home a little more if possible. This can support the above clearing and releasing potentials too. Companion animals can be supportive of our secure and happy feelings around the home environment. But if we are feeling poorly, we may prefer to suffer in silence. Use discrimination and consult the appropriate health care practitioner if needed!
Virgo 10th house – Creative endeavors need to take a front seat now. If we can combine our creativity with career, so much the better. We pay attention to our own creative expression and leave others to do the same. In other words, we don’t sacrifice our creative spirit by attempting to live through someone else whom we may feel is ‘truly’ creative.
