I feel like as a society we spend more time trying to capture a perfect moment instead of learning to live in the moment itself. For instance, If someone is dining at a restaurant, they have to instragram their food before they eat it or they’re out at a museum or park and they post pictures saying they are at a park or museum? Making a status on facebook about such and such, Or texting someone to tell you they are here instead of walking to the door? Is this really necessary?
It seems like we’re becoming programmed to capture memories instead of learning to just live in the moment of them. It’s almost as if society is obsessed with trying to make and capture these perfect moments instead of learning about life’s imperfections. Life is full of imperfections, it’s like what they don’t tell you about that beautiful girl on the magazine is that she’s fighting an eatting disorder right now or maybe that guy is secretly gay but he’s afraid of what would happen because of society. Everyone has a story, a picture is truly worth a thousand hidden words. Why is society OBSESSED with being perfect when we are anything but? If we spend so much time capturing images we are limiting our full potential of ourselves.
I mean technology is wonderful, it helps us communicate ideas and talk to eachother and it’s a quick go to for finding things in 5 seconds or less. It’s beautiful to take pictures and capture moments on film, i mean i do it with my son. Call me guilty 😛 However it just makes me wonder do we as a society spend too much time trying to capture the memory rather than just enjoy ourselves, being in the moment. I mean in reality, what’s better than simply holding hands and walking down the beach or watching your childs first steps, these moments we are so captivated in awe we aren’t thinking “god i wish i had my camera, we’re thinking wow this is real life, this is magical, life is beautiful”
When we spend so much time trying to capture a memory by a phone, a camera, a video film, etc. it slips through our fingers…I think sometimes it’s okay to turn off the phone, turn off the computer and simply enjoy yourself in the present. Why do we need to catch memories? Aren’t the most magical moments when you’re just simply enjoying the many pleasures of life itself?
Just give yourself one day, or even half a day and truly be in the moment, be conscious of your actions and live in the moment, Enjoy yourself, become the memory rather than spending time trying to catch it. You never know what can happen until you step outside of your comfort zone.
Live. Love. Be.
