We have now completed the first spiral of Cycles of Healing (32 articles), laying the groundwork for linking the new moon with the Great Year Ages and all that involves. This second spiral will look at the new and full moon charts. If you are new to Western Sidereal Astrology, please read this article. I am using charts drawn up for Washington, D.C. and use sidereal whole sign houses. If you want to know how to use Cycles of Healing with each new moon for deep healing, read this article.
This month’s full moon is at 9° 25’ Cancer in the 12th house, and is exact at 8:46 pm. We have the opportunity to go deeply within to really integrate what has come up for us during this cycle (commencing with the new moon). There may be profound spiritual insight we can access to further align ourselves to more compassionate ways of living and being. Don’t fight the urge to be better in order to stay comfortable. Change is never comfortable, but often vitally necessary. We contemplate what is our foundation and how that might change for the better; what is the ground of our being and how we can simplify our life toward True Authenticity. Can we consciously approach our hidden depths and befriend this wise counselor? We ask for clarifying dreams and promise to listen to, and act upon, our intuition.
Mercury stations direct in Sagittarius January 25th, and will be out of its shadow period on February 14th. So, don’t stop the careful attention to communications, and general awareness to avoid accidents of all kinds quite yet. Even better, let Mercury retrograde teach you how to be aware all the time even when he isn’t retrograde. There’s method to his madness.
Mercury and Pluto are 41 arc minutes from an exact conjunct at 21° Sagittarius; and within 1° orb square to Uranus – still. Here Pluto is lending a helping transformational hand with other aspects of this Full Moon chart that nudge us toward more open-minded, curious Self-enquiry. Are there any thought patterns, beliefs or other mental habits that need to be scrutinized or just plain jettisoned? This will help enormously with our quest toward the Authentic Self.
Jupiter is retrograde at 29° Leo with the north node just about to follow right after him at 00° 18’ Virgo. This is an expansive time when we may recalibrate our life path to something more fulfilling, fun and creative, and is fully supported by this Cancer Full Moon. We take any opportunity to do so and always check in with how this feels to us. Is whatever we are participating in authentic to us? This is the most important watchword to follow by tuning into our heart’s wisdom.
Jupiter stations direct on May 9 and comes out of the retrograde shadow period in early August.
The moon squares Mars in Libra. Be aware that what might come up over these next couple of weeks will be opportunities to balance the tendency between being competitive or giving our power away. There is a middle road if we but seek it. Any life turbulence could be exacerbated for a time, but know that this too shall pass.
Mars is closely conjunct Juno; square the Sun and trine Neptune in Aquarius. We are strongly asked to look at what tendencies we might have to idealize relationships, get into power struggles or seek harmony at our own detriment. This is a complex aspect-group. Depending on where any of these bodies are in our own personal charts, this will give us better understanding of the nuances, challenges and ways through the issues at hand.
Look up at the night sky: for about a month’s time just before dawn in the northern hemisphere, we will be able to see Jupiter in the last degree of Leo in the West, Mars in the last half of Virgo, Saturn in the last half of Scorpio moving away from Antares, the heart of the Scorpion, and finally Venus, then Mercury in Sagittarius rising in the East. This is a great opportunity to acquaint ourselves with some of the constellations and the magnitudes (brightness) of all the planets that we can see with the naked eye.
Do go out in the evening as well to view the Pleiades, Hyades, Orion and Sirius. Such a treat! Around 9:30pm should bring them all into view despite obscured horizons.
On January 23rd, sunrise is 7:21 am and gets earlier now each day. The stars rise four minutes earlier each day. So be sure to get out to see this lovely configuration well before daybreak. The best viewing will be with little light pollution and unobscured horizons.
In summary, this Full Moon cycle can bring some of the deep inner changes that have been internal up till now out into the open: into our own awareness, or manifesting as mirrors for us to get more clarity before we are ready to finally make those important changes.
