Kriyas are usually intuitive movements, chants, mantras, or actions that take place during the transformation of Kundalini energy moving through the body. It can also trigger trance, twitching or shaking due to the systematic response of the nervous system. It’s nothing to be alarmed by as it should pass shortly.
The best way to explain Kriyas is comparing it to your intuition. When we have an intuitive moment such as “knowing the right thing to say” or intuitively guessing where something is and we get it right. This is usually due to our subconscious accessing our long term memory. If you have ever channeled before, you will notice when channeling words come up before you can even process what you are writing or saying, it’s instinctual and naturally flows together. It is the same when you are writing/singing a song or writing a novel. The words just flow naturally without much thinking. This is the basis of what a Kriya is…So what happens when you experience a Kriya is you can experience spontaneous movement or actions that you subconsciously acknowledge already. For instance I notice when i am doing yoga sometimes my hands will go into intuitive mudras, ksepana mudra is one i tend to do a lot just on accident. ksepana mudra helps get rid of negative energy or excess energy.
In the same way you might find yourself chanting a mantra to yourself such as “I am not my own thoughts” or “I release fear and resentment”. Also maybe you find yourself intuitively wanting to dance or relax in a simple asana or maybe you find yourself in the Namaste position without realizing it. Another one is making Crystal grids intuitvely, this all comes back to the behavior of our subconscious mind. The examples here are endless but that is basically what a Kriya is, intuitive gestures and movements of the body due to the flow of Kundalini.
What are the different symptoms in your body that manifest in order to clear blockage?
When we have blocked flow of energy or an excess amount of energy we need to release it and this can manifest in numerous ways. It is the same way that you would clear a chakra, the energy needs to detox. It will usually show up in your emotions and thoughts in the form of cognitive dissonance. This dissonance will show up as anger, resentment, turmoil, anxiety, sadness and even tears. Actually crying is a good sign because it is symbolic of you releasing your emotions. Cognitive dissonance enables the resistance of letting go, when we aren’t able to let go sometimes this will manifest into an illness that we need to heal. Sometimes even an injury has to happen to make us see a point in what we are holding back or not comprehending within ourselves.
When it comes to Kundalini it could even manifest in the form of a flu bug or maybe you have a sinus infection due to the clearing of the pituitary gland. All physical illness is the result of energy either being blocked or excess of energy due to our thought process. So how it manifests depends on the symbolism of what is the root cause of the energy behind the thought that formed it. It also can manifest within our relationships, I always say relationships especially sexual relationships are a huge growth factor when it comes to kundalini awakening. However it can be any relationship say you are angry at your mom for some reason and rather than forgiving her it manifests into a stomach issue. This can happen because the solar plexus is the root of our maternal energy so if you have momma issues it will more than likely cause an imbalance in the solar plexus. So to answer your question yes kriyas can be felt in certain chakras more than others due to what needs healing.
Does mindfulness, such as meditation & yoga, trigger kriyas?
Absolutely. Whenever we do yoga, meditation or are consciously aware our brain waves are in a more relaxed state of mind. When we’re in a relaxed state of mind our cognition is much stronger. So the hemispheres of our brain can operate more in tune with one another, promoting access to our long term memory aka the subconscious mind. There are also certain yoga poses and meditations that can trigger Kriyas especially within kundalini yoga. Along with particular sequences that acknowledge Kriyas such as combining chant, pranayama and asanas. One of my favorite meditations is Kirtan Kriya. A simple but powerful meditation practice.
Since Kriyas are automatic and intuitive, you may be doing kriyas already and just don’t realize it 🙂
