signs you are out of spiritual alignment

How do you know if you are spiritually misaligned? Better yet – What does that even mean, right? how can we make practical sense of what it means to be out of spiritual alignment in our everyday lives?

When I first came into the online space, I had no clue what the term “spiritual alignment”, “flow state” or “misaligned” even meant. I only knew the words “energy” and “energy blocks”.

I remember there was a coach I loved to follow at the time had this video and I thought it was the most hilarious thing ever. It was a video of her dressed up in a platinum mini-skirt talking to a client of hers on the phone. The client kept asking her an insane amount of questions and her response was a repetition of “And what does your soul say about that?” and “Is that aligned for you?”

At the time, I thought it was one of the most truthful things I watched on the internet in a while that spoke to me because she was right!

The best question to always ask yourself as a spiritually awakened individual is: Is this aligned for me?

followed by What does my Intuition/soul say about that?

Over the years, I’ve come to learn one of the most important spiritual truths is honoring and knowing your spiritual alignment.

What Is Spiritual Alignment?

Spiritual Alignment is the process of aligning your thoughts, words, and actions with your highest truth.

This means living in a way that is integrity with your deepest values, purpose, and beliefs. Spiritual Alignment is also when your Thoughts, feelings, and actions are all free-flowing as one guiding you to take action from your intuition. This is why the Question: “Is this aligned for me?” and listening to your intuitive response or what you feel pulled by can be such an important question.

Some of the Key Aspects of Spiritual Alignment are:

  • Living Authentically: Knowing Your Authentic self, Acting by your true values and beliefs.
  • Inner Resonance: Feeling in harmony with your physical, mental, and emotional health.
  • Connection to a higher power: You honor your connection to your Spiritual self. A sense of being connected to something bigger than yourself, whether it be a deity, the universe, or a spiritual force. You feel connected to Source, God, or Quantum intelligence.
  • Strong Intuition: You have Intuitive guidance & a connection to your internal guidance system that helps pull you forward.
  • Empowered mindset: Maintaining a positive outlook, open-minded perspective, and focus on gratitude.
  • Intentionality: Deliberately choosing actions that align with your spiritual goals & what matters most to you aka your deepest values or soul purpose.
  • Non-Linear Thinking: Influenced by divine feminine energy, right-brain processing and often happens through random or intuitive nudges.

How do you know when you’re in alignment?

You will feel a pull, nudge, or intuitive guidance pushing you forward…it may even be off the beaten path, random or even non-linear. I remember many times when I had a vision like: “Mindset course based on chakras”, it doesn’t make sense yet but then I’ll get more and more ideas later in the week like “a 7-day chakra challenge” and “meditations each day” pop up. Then by the end of the week, I have my creative idea for my next project or course bundle. However, it first started as merely a bizarre non-linear vision!

When you know how your intuition works (I’m a visual learner) and you honor your authentic self by tuning into that inner guidance. This is how you start to take action from your pure alignment. This is where you listen more closely because your Alignment will never lead you astray from your true spiritual truth and path.

When you are living aligned you are often living authentically to your highest truth and here’s the kicker? This can and often will change over time due to your spiritual growth.

How Do I Know If I’m Out of Spiritual Alignment?

Now with all this in mind, you might be asking yourself, How do I know if I’m out of alignment?

What if your feelings of doubt, overwhelm or disconnection aren’t really a problem, but they are a sign of your own healing journey?

Let’s think about this. Now, when it comes to knowing misalignment, you might be feeling that misalignment is just imbalanced energy or an energy block. In my personal experience? Spiritual misalignment goes way deeper than that and it’s powerful to understand there is a difference. Are they connected? If I tell you I have an imbalanced third eye chakra does that also mean I’m spiritually misaligned? YES. However, there is a difference between recognizing the signs of feeling out of spiritual alignment vs having an overactive third eye for example.

We could even safely say that Spiritual Alignment is like an umbrella topic and Underneath Spiritual Alignment there is:

1. Soul Purpose
2. Beliefs & Values
3. Your Intuition
4. Misalignment
5. Energy blocks
6. Imbalanced Chakras
7. Limited Beliefs
8. Ego /Conscious Mind
9. Subconscious Mind
10. Unconscious Mind

So if you were to just imagine Spiritual Alignment is the source fueling all of these topics together. However, at the tippy top is Spiritual Alignment INFLUENCING the whole show. ( I feel like I need a whiteboard here, pointing at things with a black marker…but you get the point)

Regardless, I think it’s so crucial to understand, that we must get beyond just the fact that these are buzzwords, and to understand them in a practical, tangible way for our benefit.

Misalignment is actually a very practical thing that is occurring, and it has its own signs and symptoms. So I want to break it down exactly what it is, how you know if you’re misaligned, and what you can start to do about it.

3 KEY CATEGORIES OF SPIRITUAL MISALIGNMENT:

I want you to break it down real simply into three key categories because this will help you drastically understand it.

When it comes to misalignment there is:

  1. Emotional misalignment.
  2. Mental misalignment
  3. Spiritual misalignment.

Now, when it comes to looking at this, let’s dive into exactly what each one is and how it shows up.

Emotional Misalignment:

Emotional misalignment can show up in subtle yet impactful ways. You might feel overwhelmed or anxious without any clear reason. For example, maybe you have old emotional wounds and triggers resurface, making it difficult to move forward. Often, these emotions manifest as a deep sense of disconnection, emptiness, or even a lingering sadness.

Signs of Emotional Misalignment

When you’re emotionally misaligned, you may find yourself:

  • Struggling with negative emotions like grief, heartbreak, or depression.
  • Feeling lost, confused, or out of control.
  • Experiencing emotional dysregulation, where managing your feelings becomes a challenge.

These feelings of being stuck or emotionally scattered often stem from unhealed wounds or unresolved triggers. You might feel blocked or disconnected, unsure of why you’re experiencing these emotions. But here’s the truth: your emotions are messengers.

The Key Insight: Emotions as Indicators

Repeat after me: “My emotions are an indicator of what I need to heal and change.”

This affirmation is at the heart of emotional alignment. Your emotions are like signposts, pointing you toward areas in your life that require healing, growth, or change. When you experience emotional misalignment, it’s often because:

  • Old wounds or past traumas are being triggered.
  • You’re stuck in a pattern of victim consciousness.
  • Relationships or situations bring unresolved pain to the surface.

These moments, while difficult, are invitations to look inward and address the root cause.

The Path to Healing

Recognizing emotional misalignment isn’t about blaming yourself for how you feel—it’s about listening to your emotions and understanding what they’re trying to tell you. Emotional healing begins when you:

  1. Acknowledge your emotions: Instead of suppressing or ignoring them, sit with your feelings and name what you’re experiencing.  You can start to use your emotions as an indicator of what needs to shift and change.
  2. Identify the triggers: Pay attention to what or who brings up these emotions, and explore the deeper wounds behind them. Always Question your negative resistance and what it’s trying to tell you.
  3. Take aligned action: Your emotions signal where change is needed—whether it’s setting boundaries, practicing self-compassion, or seeking support for healing.

Mental Misalignment

Just like emotions serve as indicators of what needs healing, your thoughts can signal areas where you’re mentally misaligned. Mental misalignment often shows up through negative thought patterns, which can deeply impact your mindset and ability to move forward.

Signs of Mental Misalignment

Mental misalignment tends to manifest in specific ways, including:

  • Negative self-talk: Beating yourself up, feeling unworthy, or believing you’re not good enough.
  • Spiraling thoughts: Persistent, looping thoughts that feel out of control and drain your energy.
  • Self-doubt and indecisiveness: Overthinking and second-guessing your choices, which blocks your decision-making process.
  • Feelings of inadequacy: Believing you’re failing even when you’re making progress, or feeling like you’re not doing enough, despite evidence to the contrary.

These mental patterns can create resistance, making it hard to take aligned action or feel confident in your decisions. They are more than just fleeting negative thoughts; they are recurring, persistent, and impactful on your overall mindset and energy.

The Key Insight: Thoughts as Indicators

Repeat after me: “My thoughts are an indicator of what I need to shift and change.”

Your mindset reflects what’s happening internally. Negative thoughts, resistance, or self-doubt are signs that something deeper needs attention. They highlight areas where healing, growth, or alignment is required.

For example:

  • Spiraling negative thoughts may signal unresolved fears or limiting beliefs.
  • Persistent self-doubt might reflect a lack of trust in yourself or your abilities.
  • Feelings of failure or “not enough” can point to worthiness wounds that need healing.

By recognizing these patterns, you can begin to shift your mindset and create alignment in your mental space.

The Path to Realignment

Addressing mental misalignment involves more than noticing a single negative thought—it requires awareness of recurring patterns and intentional action to shift them. Here’s how to start:

  1. Observe your thought patterns: Pay attention to repetitive negative thoughts or self-talk. Ask yourself, “Is this thought true? Is it helpful?”
  2. Challenge and reframe: Replace disempowering thoughts with affirming ones. For example, if you think, “I’m failing,” reframe it to, “I’m making progress, even if it’s not perfect.”
  3. Strengthen self-worth: Practice self-compassion and remind yourself of your accomplishments, no matter how small they seem.
  4. Focus on aligned action: Shift your attention to what you can control and take small steps forward, even when doubt creeps in.

Spiritual Misalignment:

When it comes to spiritual misalignment, the signs can often feel more abstract but deeply impactful. Spiritual misalignment can present itself in various ways, often affecting how we feel, think, and navigate life.

Signs of Spiritual Misalignment:

Spiritual misalignment can feel abstract or directly tangible with your spiritual self:

  • Feeling unsupported by the universe or blocked from spiritual guidance.
  • Difficulty connecting to intuition, leaving you lost, confused, or aimless.
  • Overwhelming spiritual awakening symptoms, which can feel destabilizing or chaotic.
  • Struggling with faith in spiritual power, doubting your purpose, or feeling disconnected from your higher self.
  • Constant second-guessing, indecision, or feeling drained—even after engaging in activities that once brought joy.
  • Feeling isolated or misunderstood in relationships, which can indicate being out of alignment with others or yourself.

Another layer to this is the experience of a spiritual awakening that feels overwhelming or chaotic. While awakening is a process of transformation, if it becomes confusing, exhausting, or destabilizing, it may point to spiritual misalignment rather than alignment. These symptoms often show up in the higher chakras, particularly the crown and third eye, which govern intuition, connection, and higher consciousness. This is why it’s sometimes common to have Overactive higher chakras during awakening.

In addition, spiritual misalignment may reveal itself through your beliefs or disbelief in spiritual power or a higher force. If you feel disconnected from your sense of purpose, your faith in universal energy, or your intuitive gifts, it can serve as an indicator of where there is work to be done. This disconnection might show up as questioning your worth, doubting your path, or feeling stuck in patterns that seem impossible to break free from.

A few everyday signs of spiritual misalignment include:

  • Feeling drained, even after engaging in activities that once energized you.
  • Struggling to connect with others deeply, leading to a sense of isolation or being misunderstood.
  • Constantly second-guessing your decisions and feeling indecisive.
  • Having thoughts like:
“I feel like I’m doing everything I’m supposed to, but nothing is working.”
“I don’t even know what I want anymore.”
“I feel so disconnected—from my purpose, my intuition, and even myself.”
“I feel stuck in the same patterns, like I can’t move forward no matter what I try.”

If these feelings resonate, it’s essential to recognize that misalignment isn’t a flaw – it’s simply an indicator. It’s an invitation to explore where your connection has been interrupted, where healing is needed, or where changes are calling you toward a more aligned life.

3 Truths About Being Out of Spiritual Alignment

  1. Alignment isn’t about perfection.

Spiritual Alignment isn’t about perfection—it’s about recognizing where you can grow, heal, and make choices that better serve your authentic self. It’s about reconnecting to yourself so your energy flows freely. At the same time, It’s an everyday process of tuning into your internal state of consciousness and aligning your mindset, emotions, and actions.

2. It’s not something “out there.

Alignment is an inner state where your emotions, thoughts, and actions work together. True alignment is about coming home to your most authentic self. It’s about feeling intuitive, confident, and emotionally fulfilled while navigating life with a sense of purpose and flow. Its not about having the best spiritual lifestyle, the perfect morning ritual or feeling egoic pride for doing “the inner work”. Spiritual alignment is not about chasing positivity or perfection but about choosing the path of least resistance—the one that feels right for you. It’s about staying in integrity with yourself and saying ‘fuck – the noise.’

3. Alignment is not one-size-fits-all.

Your alignment will look different from someone else’s because it’s about what feels true to you. Remember, alignment looks different for everyone because it reflects your unique self. When you are spiritually aligned, you are mentally, emotionally, and spiritually healthy. You feel grounded in who you are, connected to your purpose, and supported by the universe.
