Monday is the sixth Uranus/Pluto square. This is a Big Deal, like watching a large wave crest on the horizon. I know your eyes sometimes glaze over when I mention things like “squares”, but the Uranus/Pluto square is the defining aspect of our generation and it has its roots in the 1960s.
First, what the hell is a square?
Quick Astrology 101 — A square is when two planets make a 90 degree angle from each other. See, that wasn’t that hard. Astrology is all about the relationship planets make to each other in the sky, whether harmonious or stressful, helpful or challenging. Like the sharp 90 degree angle of a table edge, a square is challenging. It forces us to integrate two sides that are working at cross purposes.
Uranus and Pluto have been making a series of squares to each other since since 2012. The energy is hard, provocative, and profoundly transformative. All you have to do is look back at your life before 2012 and you are a completely different person. You’ve been pushed, pulled, and molded into something new. And it’s not just you. Just turn on the news. There are protests and revolutions all the while the old world digs in for a fight to the death. But the fight is inside you just as it is outside you.
So how does this relate to the 1960s? In 1965 and 1966, Uranus and Pluto made three conjunctions, which means that the two planets occupied the same space in the sky. And what did we have in the 1960s? Revolution. Protests. The fight for civil rights.
Here we are only a few days away from the sixth Uranus/Pluto square and, like clock work, people have been out in force protesting the status quo. The battle between Uranus and Pluto is this — the rights and freedom of the individual (Uranus in Aries) versus the autocratic control of the powers that be, whether the state, corporations, et cetera (Pluto in Capricorn).
There are seven exact Uranus/Pluto squares. We’ve had five already. The sixth is Monday. The last one is in March. Here are the dates:
June 24, 2012 – 8 degrees
September 19, 2012 – 6 degrees
May 20, 2013 – 11 degrees
November 1, 2013 – 9 degrees
April 21, 2014 – 13 degrees
December 15, 2014 – 12 degrees
March 17, 2015 – 15 degrees
So what does this mean for you? Again, you have been changing in unimaginable ways. Like birth or any process that takes us through the narrow threshold from one life to the next, it isn’t easy. It’s emotional. It’s messy. It’s potent. It’s alchemical. My drumbeat this whole time has been, how do you want to use this energy? If you know your life is changing, that you cannot go back to the ways things were, what do you want to create in its place? How can you have a breakthrough instead of a breakdown?
Take extra care of yourself this weekend. Rest. Recharge. Meditate. Draw through what you feel. Envision the life you want to grow out of the ashes of the old. Destruction has a habit of creating fertility. Think black volcanic soil or compost.
Plant your seeds.
